Braille Music Notation
Musical notation is rendered in braille code, in the same manner that it is rendered in print, for musicians who access it visually. Braille musical notation can be printed on paper, or read on an electronic refreshable braille display.
In the video below, from the National Federation of the Blind (NFB), “Measure for Measure,” one of the most telling conversations is that from a man describing that many music or band teachers may have no idea that musical notation is available for their students in braille. Like printed musical scores, and printed words, for that matter, it is this interaction with music and music theory that is critical to literacy in either music or language.
